Pinterest Marketing in 2024 for Small Businesses

One of the best ways for small businesses to market themselves or their products in 2024 is through Pinterest marketing. Whether you are a product based e-commerce business or a service based business, Pinterest marketing is one of the best ways to drive traffic to your website in 2024. In this blog post I will be showing you why it is vitally important to the growth of your small business and how to get started with Pinterest Marketing in 2024.

Search Engine Optimization

Small businesses understand the power of social media, but a lot of people don’t realize the value of marketing their business on search engines such as YouTube and Pinterest. Why is Pinterest considered a search engine? Pinterest relies heavily on keywords to deliver content to the right audience. Users of the platform either use their Home Feed or the search bar to find content specific to their search terms. The Home Feed becomes more curated based on the user’s recent searches and pinning activity.

Businesses can use this to their advantage when they are creating pins by doing keyword research and leveraging search engine optimization (SEO) in their pin graphics, titles, descriptions, and tags.

Evergreen Content

Another way Pinterest is different from social media platforms is the lifespan of Pinterest pins versus other types of content such as Instagram posts, Reels, or TikToks. Pinterest pins live on indefinitely and can go viral several times as opposed to only gaining traction for a short window of time. If you have E-commerce listings in an Etsy shop or on a Shopify website, you can create a pin linking to that listing and with the right keywords and a quality title and description, that pin will live on and drive traffic to that listing for as long as that listing is live!

Start Today

Now that we understand why you should market your business on Pinterest, I’ll tell you how to get started with Pinterest Marketing today!

1. Optimize your account

Once you have created your account, you will want to optimize your bio! Do some keyword research to make sure your content is being pointed toward your ideal client. After you have optimized your bio, create some pinterest boards related to the types of pins you will be creating. If you are a graphic designer, create some boards about logo design, colors, and font pairings. If you have an etsy shop where you sell custom gifts, create boards such as gifts for mom, gifts for dad, gifts for grandparents. This allows you to organize your pins, I recommend starting with at least six different boards.

2. Pin templates

Depending on the type of pin you’re creating, sometimes you can get away with using a beautiful, standalone photo instead of a pin graphic. For example, we have an interior design client who takes beautiful pictures that speak for themselves. Adding words or logos overtop of the photos would detract from their beauty, so we just use the photos on their own. We have another client who takes beautiful product photos for her Etsy listings so we use some of her photos on their own and created some pin templates with text overlay for a wider variety of content on her account.

3. batch schedule your pins

As a platform, Pinterest loves consistency! I recommend starting with one pin per day, which sounds like more work than traditional social media platforms, but you could have an entire month’s worth of pins batched in an hour or two! Pinterest has a scheduling feature, or you can look into upgrading to a scheduling program such as Tailwind. The content you post today will start gaining traction in the next 60-90 days and continue to drive traffic indefinitely!

Whether you’re selling a product or a service, getting traffic to your website should always be the goal. Harnessing the SEO power, visual appeal, and content longevity of Pinterest is essential for online business owners. Consistently create beautiful, SEO rich pins and your analytics will be off the charts. It takes time to build up to millions of views, but be consistent and patient, and your Pinterst account can do the heavy lifting of getting new eyes to your website!
